Card Catalog #2

29 Aug

The Card Catalog is a place here on Sincerely Kate where I take a once-a-month break from talking about pen pal related things and instead talk about another hobby of mine, making and sharing Artist Trading Cards– ATCs for short. If you’ve been following SK for a while, you know that the two breeds I specifically like talking about are Little Cards and Change Cards. To steal what I said last time, “Little Cards are the ATCs I swap based on monthly themes via a FB group I run; Change Cards are the ones I leave as random acts of kindness on behalf of ATC the Change.”

Speaking of last time, when I talked about these aforementioned kinds of ATCs, I did not have June or July’s Little Cards to share with you yet, so allow me to do so now!

JUNE

What was said about June’s theme, School Spirit, when it was first announced:

In a few weeks, my Little Viking will be all done with the first grade, and he’s hardly the only one either moving on to the next grade, if not graduating. It’s because it’s graduation season that I thought School Spirit would be a fun theme for this month. You could use the mascots from your school, do something with your school colors, etc., etc. It can be grade school or college; we’re not too concerned with those specifics!

Just three of us participated in this theme, and here are the three ATCs I personally acquired from this swap:

JULY

The following theme was Under the Sea, and this is what I had to say about it:

The theme the last couple Julys has been “Summer Blockbusters,” but with a nudge from Allegrae, I decided to borrow from another movie entirely, lol. For the record, if you choose to participate in this theme, you are not obligated to go The Little Mermaid route, but instead can create ATCs featuring whatever you may find under the sea like fish, coral, and even shipwrecks. The world is your oyster 😉

Six of us participated in July’s theme, and these six Little Cards joined my collection of ATCs:

AUGUST

I do not have my collection of Little Cards from this month’s Autumn theme yet, but something I can share with you is what I’ve done per ATC the Change this month!

I left a total of 14 ATCs since the last card catalog; over half of them were when Mother Dearest and I last went to Troy, MI. It was because of that trip of ours that I made a baker’s dozen of the things, including these Alice in Wonderland-friendly ATCs left when mom and I went to Mad Hatter Bistro:

Bonus: I had nothing to do with abandoning the ATC on the left someone found and then shared, but it was me who made it, hehe.

I’m not sure how many more Change Cards I’ll make between now and this time next month, but hopefully I’ll have plenty of opportunities to leave plenty more.

Again, if you have any suggestions for the Card Catalog between now and then, don’t hesitate to share them with me since I’m still trying to figure out the best way to combine these two endeavors of mine into one monthly post. Hope you enjoyed this one, by the way!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Card Catalog

5 Aug

Though more than anything this is a pen pal-friendly blog, in addition to posting about happy mail, I have also posted about many an ATC (Artist Trading Card). There have been two kinds of ATCs I have shared the most over the past couple years, and I affectionately call them Little Cards and Change Cards. Little Cards are the ATCs I swap based on monthly themes via a FB group I run; Change Cards are the ones I leave as random acts of kindness on behalf of ATC the Change.

A month ago I wrote about my decision to start posting these ATCs together in lieu of them continuing to have separate entries, and today is the (belated) first installment! Please bear with me as I figure out the best way to format this new series– not only do I have two months worth of catching up to do regarding Change Cards, I only have May’s Little Cards in full.

MAY

Little Cards:

May’s theme was The 60s/70s, and this is what I said about it when I first announced it:

My train of thought for this theme was like this: April showers brings May flowers. Well, we just did Agriculture and we’ve done Spring before, too. Hmm… Oh, I know, the hippie era! Not that you have to do anything with flowers or even with hippies. If there is something from either the 60s and/or 70s that calls to you, by all means use that as your inspiration!

Four of us were called to make ATCs per this theme– those shoes were just a bit on back order 😉

JUNE

Change Cards:

I didn’t make any Change Cards in June, but I did leave the four below as well as another five:

Little Cards:

As I mentioned above, I do not have June’s Little Cards in full as I’m still waiting to receive Vikki’s contribution. What I will tell you, though, is that the theme was “School Spirit” and there were three of us that participated/are participating.

JULY

Change Cards:

I made at least 20 Change Cards last month– a dozen of them were these snail mail-friendly ones:

I left 14 ATCs when I was with my mom on the 11th and 12th, and 9 when I’ve been out and about with the boys, mainly on our vacation up north.

Little Cards:

Like with June, I am one contribution away from being able to share July’s haul because they have yet to arrive from The Netherlands. In the meantime I will tell you that July’s theme was “Under the Sea” and there are six of us participating.

AUGUST

If it wasn’t for our recent vacation to the U.P., this post would have happened on the last Wednesday of July, so this is not the time or place for any August ATCs just yet. Hopefully come August 29th, however, I will have all of the missing Little Cards and maybe all of August’s, too. Just so you know, the current theme is Autumn and there are five of us participating.

If you have any suggestions for the Card Catalog between now and then, don’t hesitate to share them with me. In return, I will be sure to share whatever ATCs August has in store for me between these two endeavors of mine.

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

A Blog Post About My Blog Posts

5 Jul

It would be easy to blame my apathy towards blogging last month on my grandmother dying, but the fact of the matter is I was feeling apathetic prior to that happening. When 2018 started, I had a game plan for Sincerely Kate, starting with my mail calls continuing to happen on the 1st and 15th of every month, and my Two Cents series staying on the last Wednesday of each month, too. Next the 5th and 20th of each month became scheduled days as well. The latter has been a play on the “If we were having coffee” posts, while the former was more of a wildcard. Sure, other posts were peppered in occasionally, but these scheduled posts were the staple.

Well, as June 5th got closer and closer, the more at a loss I was regarding what I wanted to post about. The best idea I could come up with was bitching about how some new pen pals weren’t working out, but just because it was my best idea, didn’t actually mean it was a good one. So the fifth came and went with no blog post.

Then the 27th was approaching. I knew I was supposed to post about Change Cards via “Two Cents,” and though I did make/leave a few cards in June, those things alone just didn’t seem worth sharing at the time. I will show you these donut-friendly ATCs I made to leave as RAOK now, though, lol:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I do NOT want this blog to just become a place where there are mail calls twice a month. Prior to June I do think I was on the right track, but now that we’re into the second half of the year, it’s a good time to make a couple more modifications.

The biggest change is going to be that the “Two Cents” series is no more. Rest assured, this doesn’t mean I will no longer share what I do per ATC the Change, but instead I’m going to change how I go about it—still on the last Wednesday of each month. After all, Change Cards are not the only ATCs that ever get featured here on Sincerely Kate; I also share the Little Cards I receive through monthly swaps that I organize. As much as I love sharing what I receive via Little Cards on Big Adventures (LCOBA), when I have gotten those cards has been SO sporadic. As I write this, I’m not only still waiting on ATCs from June, but a batch from May as well.

That all said, between how unpredictable LCOBA can be, and how sometimes my own motivation per ATC the Change can be unpredictable, rather than posting about these two endeavors in different posts, I’ll be merging them into what I’m calling “The Card Catalog.” How will that work? I’m not entirely sure yet, lol. My hope is merely that the merger means the posts will become more worthwhile, and that maybe one side will compensate for the other should its content not be very sufficient at the time.

Well, what about the fifth, Kate? Though I’m posting this very post today, I don’t know whether or not posting on the fifth is something I’m going to continue just yet. It’s certainly something I’d like to do, though. It would be easy to fall back on a series of some sort, but the whole point of posting on the fifth of each month this year was to give me a break from the series and do things more relevant to what’s happening at the time. April, for example, I wrote how I sent a few pen pals a total of 31 postcards throughout all of March.

TL,DR: Moving forward on this blog is basically crossing bridges as I get to them. I don’t know if my idea for The Card Catalog will work, nor if I’ll continue posting on the 5th of each month; these are merely things I’d like to happen and therefore I pray they will. Wish me luck!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Little Cards: Fairies and Friends

17 Apr

In case this hasn’t become obvious over the past two-and-a-half years, I run a Facebook group for monthly ATC swaps, Little Cards on Big Adventures. For March the theme I chose was Fairies and Friends, and this was what I posted when I announced it (the day after my birthday):

Though I didn’t get any gnome-friendly presents for my birthday yesterday, they are something I have gotten quite a bit in the past! I bring this up because once upon a time Arlene suggested “Elves, Dwarves, and Fairies” as a theme, and it seemed like a great fit for both my birthday month and the return of spring to do something with whimsical creatures.

Four people, myself included, chose to participate in this theme, resulting in 16 ATCs all together since we each made four. The reason for this is so not only so we each get one that we made, we get one from each of the other participants, too. These are the four little cards I acquired from this adventure:

Just so you know, I’m responsible for the leprechaun. I may love me some gnomes, but considering St. Patrick’s Day falls in March, it seemed like too good of an idea to ignore.

And Agriculture must have seemed like a good enough theme this month since 6 of us are participating in that. I just finished my ATCs this morning at it has me thinking the set will be as fun to get as Logan thinks spring planting is, lol. I may not be looking forward to seeing so little of my farmers once spring planting starts, but I am looking forward to sharing more Little Cards with you in the not-so-distant future.

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Little Cards: Disney Couples

22 Mar

For almost two-and-a-half years I have hosted ATC swaps via the group Little Cards on Big Adventures. Every month I post a theme, and February’s was Disney Couples. When I announced this theme at the beginning of February, I said this:

I don’t know about you, but I can’t think about February without thinking about love thanks to Valentine’s Day being smack dab in the middle of the month. This year I thought it would be fun to do something featuring the kind of couples I first saw as a child and still watch now that I have a child of my own. Though if I’m being honest, Gabe and I would still watch ’em even if we didn’t have Logan, lol.

No one is ever required to participate, so the people who wanted to make ATCs featuring a Disney couple then had a couple days to sign up. From there, the 6 of us who signed up had the month of February to each make 6 ATCs and send them my way. As of last Tuesday I had all of the batches, so I assembled them into sets so each person would get an ATC from each participant (themselves included). This is the set I personally acquired:

Maybe it’s just because I’m a big fan of Disney, but with a set like this I feel like the more ATCs there would have been, the better the set could have been. So many couples weren’t featured unless we count the others I used for my particular batch:

But at least I have this picture of the couples I didn’t get to keep, right? 😉

There are only 4 of us participating in the Fairies and Friends theme this month, and whether they’re all vastly different or everyone decided to make leprechauns since it’s March, it should be a fun batch. Sláinte, bleaders!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Little Cards: December

17 Jan

As soon as I have all of the Little Cards per January’s Legendary theme, I have a slightly different way I’m planning to blog about the ATCs I receive on this adventure. The cards from the Clothing/Accessories theme from last month, though, are still from last year so I’m not changing things up like they’ve gone out of style quite yet, haha.

Vikki recently suggested that we should do this fashion-friendly swap, by the way, and in December we were 2 of the 5 people who participated in it. These were the 5 ATCs I personally acquired:

oct1

My contribution, for the record, is the one that says “Get your merry on,” and Vikki’s is the purple one on the top left! In hindsight my ugly sweater might have been too odd of an idea compared to some of the others, but overall the cards are all fun in their own ways– I still can’t believe Heleen knit teeny tiny sweaters!

I’d just like to take a moment, by the way, to thank the members who have been as reliable as a favorite sweater over the past couple years. I thought my recent post drummed up some new interest, but it wound up being as frustrating for me as it was fleeting for them. Their loss, right?

I, for one, love all of the Little Cards I have received on this adventure, and I know the ones to come this year will be loved a lot, too.

Sincerely, Kate ~!~
