Two Cents: November Edition

29 Nov

The purpose of this Two Cents series is to have a monthly “show and tell” per ATC the Change– a RAOK cause I cofounded. Each edition will feature many of the Change Cards I’ve made, along with other things I’ve done to make the world better one Change Card at a time. Change. Cents. Get it? Here are the highlights since last month’s post:

1. By Halloween I left all but 1 of my festive Change Cards.

2. One of said cards was left around the McDonald’s Play Place while Logan played, only to be found while we were still there. The mother told her daughters how it was like the Kindness Rocks they found before, and then asked me if I knew about those. I admitted that I’ve painted a few, and that I made that card, too. An even larger conversation and a photo op followed– how amazing is that?

3. Despite such a high, I experienced a lull the beginning of November. Around the middle of the month, though, I made up for lost time and made 24 Change Cards including these six in honor of World Kindness Day:

4. Since restocking a bit I left a dozen more cards, and have been wanting to see if one of my aunts and her friend will order any of the sets I’ve made. What’s a set? For $5, I am offering groups of 9 Change Cards that are ready to be left as Random Acts of Kindness. Please see this post if you’d like more information.

And if you’d like to join our Facebook headquarters, click me! Random FYI, but our group is currently 12 members away from 100 which is a bit of a highlight, too.

Well, the highlights may be few, but they were fun, and I think December should be a fun month for ATC the Change, too. Happiness, after all, doesn’t result from what we get, but what we give, and I want to give out tons of Change Cards 😀 Wish me luck!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Two Cents: October Edition

25 Oct

The purpose of this Two Cents series is to have a monthly “show and tell” per ATC the Change– a RAOK cause I cofounded. Each edition will feature many of the Change Cards I’ve made, along with other things I’ve done to make the world better one Change Card at a time. Change. Cents. Get it? Here are the highlights since last month’s post:

1. First of all, I made about 20 Change Cards this time around, and have left 3. Yeah, I haven’t gotten out much, sorry.

2. Krista, who I mentioned last time, also left 3 of the cards I made for her during her travels. She’s willing to dip her toes a bit more, so I’ll be sending her a couple more ATCs the next time I write her.

3. Though they’re mainly for my own use, making ATCs for Halloween and Autumn in general was a must. Here are samples of each of the inspirational-ish phrases I used:

4. Also a must? These donut-friendly ATCs thanks to the new stamps also pictured:

5. Sue. who bought sets of Change Cards from me before, bought another four! If you could ever use some cards to leave as random acts of kindness, check out this post of mine.

Not going to lie, October hasn’t been as productive of a month as I expected it to be. The good news, though, is I’m seeing my mom this weekend so I/we will have the opportunity to leave more ATCs. And knowing us, I’ll come home with some new supplies and the motivation to put ’em to use 😀

If you ever find yourself motivated to join our cause, you can find our Facebook headquarters: ATC the Change; otherwise you can find my Two Cents about it again on November 29th!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Two Cents: September Edition

27 Sep

The purpose of this Two Cents series is to have a monthly “show and tell” per ATC the Change– a RAOK cause I cofounded. Each edition will feature many of the Change Cards I’ve made, along with other things I’ve done to make the world better one Change Card at a time. Change. Cents. Get it? Here are the highlights since last month’s post:

1. Though I only left three ATCs while the Bean Festival was in town Labor Day weekend, I left over a dozen since then.

2. I easily made around five dozen, though! These 10, for example, were made using a bunch of old scraps since every so often I like turning junk into treasure.

3. Another 18 ATCs were custom-made for my mom. She’s been with me when I left many a Change Card, and she decided she’s ready to fly solo. If you’d also like to leave Change Cards as Random Acts of Kindness but can’t make your own for whatever reason, please check out this post!

4. The 21st was the International Day of Peace so these were the next ATCs I made:

ATC the Change, you see, may not have taken the world by storm yet, but I’m going to stick to this endeavor until we get there 😉

And 5. A similar RAOK taking wind? Kindness Rocks (or Smile Stones, if you prefer). These are painted rocks left to bring smiles to those who find them and then get to hide them again. I found one on Sunday, and when I relocated it, I used it as a paperweight for an ATC. Maybe making a habit of pairing these things together will help my cause grow like that one has been growing.

In the meantime, I’m very proud of how much ATC the Change continues to blossom. My next order of business is going to be making several travel-friendly Change Cards for my friend Krista to use when she goes to Tampa for work next month. With any luck we’ll plant more seeds from Michigan to Florida, but if I just spark HER interest in the cause, that’s cool, too.

Has your interest been sparked? You can join our Facebook group and join the fun! Halloween is around the corner, after all, which should make for some spooktacular ATCs. Keep an eye out for my blog post on October 25th because I’ll be sure to share my favorites and other highlights, too.

Until next time!
Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Two Cents: August Edition

30 Aug

On the last Wednesday of last month, I started the blog series Two Cents. The purpose of Two Cents is to have a monthly “show and tell,” featuring many of the Change Cards I’ve made, along with other things I’ve done to make the world better one Change Card at a time. Change. Cents. Get it? 😉 Here are the highlights since that first post:

1. Using an old collage and then a new phrase provided by Vikki, I started August with some AWESOME ATCs to use:

2. I stayed with my mom not once, not twice, but three times in August, and a total of 27 Change Cards were left while in her neck of the woods.

3. And if you want to leave Change Cards in your neck of the woods, see this blog post of mine because I’m officially selling sets of 9 cards for $5 each!

4. I’m pleased to report I sold 4 sets already– so what if they were all to the same woman? Hehe. I definitely found one heck of a supporter in Sue; she recently gifted me with a bunch of scraps which led to gifting her with this bonus set:

5. I was hoping to find even more like-minded individuals at a rock painting event at Michael’s recently, only to find it was just kids painting while their parents loitered behind them. Knowing what I know now, I’m still interested in potentially networking at similar events, but if/when I go to the Rocking Meet & Greet at a nearby park in a couple weeks, my son is going with me 😛

6. Speaking of my son, this past Sunday Logan helped me release two helium balloons out into the universe, each with an ATC attached! Here’s Logan with one of them before the launch:

And 7. It’s also worth noting our Facebook group, ATC the Change, is now less than 25 members away from 100! You’re welcome to join us and our cause if you haven’t done so already.

I’m not too sure what September has in store for ATC the Change, but I’m excited for it, and to share my Two Cents with you again when the 27th rolls around. If there’s anything else you’d like to see in this series, by the way, please let me know!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Kindness for Sale

23 Aug

There are a few things that are likely pretty obvious throughout Sincerely Kate. Pen palling, for starters, is undoubtedly my favorite hobby; I’m rather obsessed with Alice in Wonderland; and when it comes to ATCs, I’ve been known to run a mile with each inch of an idea. After all, I liked turning junk into treasure; I created the almost 2-year-old adventure that is Little Cards; and last year I cofounded ATC the Change.

When I last wrote about the latter, I said that creating Change Cards has made me love ATCs even more since they went from being small pieces of artwork to something with big meaning. The thing is though, I have way more time to make Change Cards than I have opportunities to leave them places, and this led to another inch of an idea…

Do you– yes, you!– love the idea of ATC the Change, but don’t have the time or ambition to make Change Cards? Well, I would like to help you spread kindness like confetti! For $5 each, I’m willing to send you a trading card protector sheet with a total of 9 mystery cards tucked into its pockets. Below are a few examples of sets I have built!

Should you decide you’d like one of my mystery sets, it will be sent to you with the Change Cards all ready to join you on your next outing(s). They even have information about the cause on their backside, so literally all you have to do is leave them on a table at a restaurant, tuck them in a library book, or put ’em anywhere else your heart desires. Pictures from these endeavors are welcome, of course, but they’re not mandatory.

So how can you order? You can email me at sincerelykate@hotmail.com, and I will send you an invoice via paypal– I hope that’s okay! Down the road I’d like to create an Etsy shop, but I’d like to sell at least 10 of these mystery sets before I commit to such a thing since I don’t know how many people are actually interested just yet. I appreciate your patience as I figure things out!

And I appreciate you reading this sales pitch of mine if you are, in fact, still reading, haha. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me either in the comments here, or via the email address I provided up there ^ . Looking forward to helping you help make the world a little bit better, one little Change Card at a time.

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Two Cents: An ATC the Change Series

26 Jul

ATC the Change turned 1 yesterday, and over the past few months it has turned into my second favorite hobby. When I first got into making traditional Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) over three years ago, I instantly loved how a little bit went a long way as each canvas is just 3.5 x 2.5 inches. Creating Change Cards has made my feelings grow even deeper because now ATCs aren’t just small pieces of artwork, but something with big meaning. I’ll think of a phrase (or stumble upon it somehow), and then pick out scrapbook paper and embellishments like stamps &/or washi tape that play off it well. For example, when I wanted to make Change Cards with Queen lyrics (or mild variations of them), I knew a sheet of scrapbook paper I had would be perfect…

Why did I make ATCs with Queen lyrics? Because Gabe and I saw them in concert with Adam Lamber last Thursday(!), and I wanted Change Cards to leave to and from and maybe even there. I didn’t manage to leave any at the Palace of Auburn Hills, but I still left ’em in that neck of the woods, mainly in and around our hotel room like in these pictures:

In between making those ATCs and then seeing Queen and Adam Lambert in concert, highlights from the cause this past month included…

1. These snail mail-friendly ATCs I made:

2. Putting my scraps from the past several months to use to make over 20 more Change Cards.

And 3. Starting to make a handful of sets I’m going to sell for $5 a pop. The hope is that more people will leave ATCs as RAOKs if they didn’t have to make ’em themselves. *Fingers crossed*

With Logan starting first grade in a few weeks, I imagine I’ll be even more productive in August yet! My plan for this new series is to use it as my place for Show & Tell on the last Wednesday of every month, so tune in on August 30th for more of my Two Cents about ATC the Change.

Sincerely, Kate ~!~
