Little Cards on Big Adventures

30 Oct

When the leader of the LEP was moving to the US from Canada with her wife, she wanted to downsize some stuff she acquired before she did. I gladly volunteered to take any ATCs she was willing to send me, and received a wide variety of Artist Trading Cards soon after.

The morning after, I woke up wanting to find a group where themes were announced, and each person who signed up would make enough ATCs for their fellow recipients, getting just as many in return. So, for example, if 5 people signed up to do some sort of soda swap, they’d make 5 soda-related cards and then get 5 (including one of their own) back. I asked my mom if she knew of such a thing to no avail, and Jenn told me she used to know of a message board but it was no longer active. I then took it upon myself to make my own group– a secret one for now– with Jenn being my sound board every step of the way.

October was just a few days away, so it made sense that my first swap should start on the 1st. And because Jenn was such a huge help to me, she took on the position of cohost, also arranging a swap. As hosts, our participants send their creations to us so I can distribute all the cards from my swap, and Jenn hers. We have come to the decision that her swaps would be pop culture-friendly while mine are up for more of a broad interpretation.

12 people signed up for my Orange swap, and 10 for her Halloween Movie one! The following are miscellaneous pictures from this month’s endeavors.

Several people have started receiving their Orange ATCs, and the Halloween Movie ones should start showing up any day now. I’m so excited that our trial run went so well, and that so many of the members we recruited are as excited as Jenn and I are for November!

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Family Fun

25 Oct

Though this post is a mail call, the main things I want to share are regarding my family so you’ll see some pictures in between…

October 15th: I received two batches of ATCs per a new group I’ve started– my next post will be about ’em 🙂

October 16th: My dad had shown up in Michigan a few days before, so after Logan and I spent Friday with him, I checked both mailboxes. Jody’s letter was in one and Amanda’s was in the other along with Jenn’s ATCs and a Postcard from Wonderland.

October 17th: As happy as I was to get stickers from Othella, I was happier getting to meet my new nephew, Jack!

My dad and Logan were also very happy to get to meet the little guy…

October 19th: The set of postcards I mentioned last time started my week off, along with letters from Ashley and Charmaine.

October 21st: More ATCs for yours truly.

October 22nd: I was hoping letters would have came in time to take ’em to Florida with me, but I didn’t do any writing to or from, and I certainly didn’t do any while I was there 😛

October 23rd: My trip to Florida is going to make great letter fodder, but for now, it’s a great excuse to share some pictures.

October 24th: I came home to a letter from Jody, and more ATC related goodness. I should probably go and respond to the former 😉

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Postcards from Wonderland #7

20 Oct

Until yesterday I didn’t think today’s post would be a Postcards from Wonderland one, but I’m excited that that’s the case! I took pictures of the following rather than scanning them because of the last minute-ness, but I think you’ll still love these as much as I do!

I actually don’t have a 5th postcard to show you this time around… I HAVE THIS SET OF 100!

Because of the 150th anniversary this year, I saw an advertisement for this set and passed it along to my mom. I wasn’t necessarily expecting her to get it, but of course I was hopeful. These 100 beauties showed up in my mailbox yesterday and was a complete surprise– thank you, Bessie!

And thank you for going through this rabbit hole with me!
Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Postcards in the 3rd Dimension

15 Oct

October 5th: Although you can’t tell from the photo, the postcard Frida sent me is a 3D one.

October 7th: Logan got his newest book via The Imagination Library, and came home with some other books per his first book fair. No reading material for me, I’m afraid.

October 8th: I got a postcrossing postcard, Halloween stickers from Ashley, and a letter from Tiffany.

October 9th: I went shopping with my mom for things for one brother’s wedding, and came home to another brother’s child’s birth announcement. Justine’s letter, too.

October 10th: In addition to hearing from my PPOTM, I got letters from Kari and Dena, another postcrossing card, and some ATCs– more on those later this month.

October 12th: Because of Columbus Day there was no mail, and I had an opportunity to get caught up after the 10th’s haul.

October 13th: Both Kära and Ashley sent me goodies, and Allison sent me a letter.

October 14th: It was Pablo’s turn to give me goodies. In addition to a letter from Leslie, there were more stickers and more ATCs, and another 3D postcard from Nancy.

treadAnd on that note…
Sincerely, Kate ~!~

Pen Pal of the Month- October

10 Oct

See this girl? Not only is she October’s honoree, she was the first person to ever be featured as Pen Pal of the Month on Sincerely Kate. Here is her interview from before, and below is her interview now 😀

retiredSK: How do you feel about being Pen Pal of the Month?

Kayla: It is super awesome being pen pal of the month! With all the crap going on with our house it’s a nice change of pace!

SK: What has been your favorite thing about pen palling?

Kayla: My favorite thing about pen palling is writing to different people and actually thinking about what I’m going to say. Sometimes I think before I speak, can’t do that (easily) while writing. Well….sometimes.

SK: What, if anything, is your least favorite thing about it?

Kayla: Least favorite, is when I have written a LONG letter and my fingers/wrist starts to cramp. Makes me wish I was ambidextrous.

SK: Why do you like writing me?

Kayla: I love the fact that you and I can talk about pretty much anything and there is no judgement. There is a friendship there and has been for years 😀

SK: And what do you like about October?

Kayla: Besides it being my birth month, it starts to get chillier and the leaves start to change. I LOVE fall. it is my favorite time of year.

You know what I love about this October? That it’s the 5th anniversary of when Kayla and I started writing. She has been a very devoted pen pal to me, and I’m glad I was able to introduce her to the LEP so she could find more devoted pen pals of her own. I also love going to pumpkin patches and seeing festive movies, but this post isn’t about that so…

Sincerely, Kate ~!~

That’s the Spirit

5 Oct

Thanks to everyone who voted last time, I can tell you that Amy won my silly little mail art contest with the postcard she made from a placemat. Want to participate in the next one? Make &/or decorate a postcard or envelope with “Kid(s) in Costume” and make sure I receive it by December 25th! It doesn’t need to be Halloween-friendly since the contest extends beyond this month, though I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing trick-or-treaters anytime of the year as long as they’re in my mailbox and not at my front door 😉

Send your hoopla here:

addressAnd now that that stuff has been tended to, I can tell you what has come to both of my mailboxes over the past 10 days.

September 26th: Things were really quiet for Manolo since the 21st, so I’m happy to report I finally got a letter thanks to Jody.

September 28th: While Logan was participating in Sports Day via Spirit Week, I got exercise when I got Krista’s letter.

September 29th: I was so excited to see these letters in my regular mailbox…

… and to get all this stuff from my other one.

October 1st: Erika’s letter came, bringing my reply pile that I was knocking down back to 3.

October 2nd: Prior to seeing my mom, I received postcards from my Aunt Ruth and a letter from Ashley.

October 3rd: Much like last Saturday, my week ended with Jody’s letter, as well as one from Zoe.
